Alistair Cobb - "Ali" -  is a consultant Maxillofacial surgeon in Bristol. His work is focused on the face. 

Ali has an independent private practice in Aesthetic facial surgery including face lifting and rhinoplasty at the Nuffield Hospital, Clifton.

He is the Surgical Lead for the South West UK Cleft lip & palate service and is a national trainer for cleft surgery. He has clinics with the multidisciplinary cleft team throughout the southwest for this. He collaborates with Neurosurgical colleagues at Bristol Royal Children's hospital and Southmead Hospital for craniofacial disorders and complex facial injuries. He leads the Children's facial injuries team and is a member of the Adult Craniomaxillofacial Trauma service, for the South West Level I trauma service. Weekly multidisciplinary meetings are held with colleagues in Oculoplastic surgery.

He sees children and adults for all manner of general facial and oral problems.


Ali's research interests are in surgery for facial differences in adults and children, orbital trauma management and the development of 3D imaging and engineering techniques for the improvement of safety and quality outcomes for surgery. He is a surgical advisor to the Cleft Care UK Research group. 

He is committed to training and continued professional development and regularly runs national and international courses in facial surgery. He is the President of the Maxillofacial Surgery section of the Royal Society of Medicine and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Bristol University.


Ali has a medical degree from Imperial College London and a dental degree from the Royal London Hospital. He trained in trauma, general, neurosurgery and plastic surgery in west London and was made a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, MRCS.

He trained on the London Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery rotation at St Georges, Great Ormond Street, University College London and Royal Surrey Hospitals culminating in being awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons specialising in Maxillofacial Surgery, FRSC(OMFS). Ali is on the General Medical Council specialist list for Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.

Subspeciality training was in Craniofacial Surgery at Great Ormond Street Plastic Surgery department for 15 months, then National Uk Cleft lip and palate surgery fellowship at Guys, St Thomas's and East Grinstead hospitals for 18 months including travelling fellowships in India. 

Sports injuries to the face and the rehabilitation of elite athletes in all disciplines has long been an interest and Ali is one of only very few facial specialists awarded membership of the UK Intercollegiate Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, MFSEM(UK).

Aesthetic Facial surgery brings together many aspects of these disciplines. Ali has trained with some of the best ENT, Plastic, Maxillofacial and Aesthetic surgeons in the UK in facial aesthetic techniques and was awarded the BAOMS President's Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery at Surgical Aesthetics in London. He continues to travel internationally to maintain and develop his skills in this highly demanding field.
